Sunday Training Sessions

Our club training mornings will continue to be split into two sessions on Sunday mornings, as below. Your child(ren) will be booked onto the appropriate session most suitable for them and you will be notified if we intend to move your child into a different group, beforehand.

Start Date:      Sunday 8th September 2024

End Date:        Sunday 27th April 2025

Please note, there will be no club training session on Easter Sunday, 20th April 2025.

Beginners/Intermediates (Aged 8-18) – 10am-11.30am

This session will focus on the fun element of badminton and gives players a chance to try the sport and/or for players who are not quite ready for competition. It will concentrate on co-ordination and skills needed in badminton. The players will learn grips, stroke technique to achieve various shots, footwork, scoring and play lots of games. This group is sub-divided into ability levels to aid natural progression.  New members will be initially assessed in this group.

Emerging/Advanced (Aged 8-18) – 11.30am-1pm

This session is designed for emerging, intermediate to advanced players who are keen to challenge themselves and will cover all areas of badminton including movement, tactics, grip changing, shot practice and match play. The players in this session will also be eligible to represent the club in local league matches and tournaments. This group is sub-divided into ability levels to aid natural progression and potential step up to county level.  Not suitable for beginners to the game.

LJBC Kit - Where Can You Purchase the LJBC Kit?

Lightwater Junior Badminton Club kit is available now to purchase from the club shop via this link https://pbteamwear.co.uk/collections/lightwater-jr-bc.  If you order now, it should arrive in plenty of time for the beginning of September.  We would love to see all our members wearing the minimum of the club t-shirt (shorts/skorts/hoodies are also available) for training sessions and when representing the club in either league matches or tournaments.  This will enhance the club’s identity and a give our members a real sense of belonging.

Arrival for Sessions

  • Members should not attend the training session if they, or any of your household start to feel unwell and/or have COVID symptoms.

  • Please note, our COVID policy continues to be flexible and may need to change depending on whether further BE/Government COVID restrictions are announced.

  • Hand sanitiser will be available for members to use at each session.

  • Please arrive 10 minutes before the session start time.  Late arrivals will still need to warm up properly before joining the court session.

  • Please arrive already changed into your kit and bring your own racket and drink – all, preferably identified with your name. Please change into your playing shoes once in the hall, before going on court.

  • Parents should drop their child(ren) off at the Leisure Centre, where they will be met by one of our coaches/club officers.  Members should then register their attendance and will be guided into the hall.
